The meaning of Purva Phalguni is the Previous auspicious fruit. Individuals under this nakshatra are considered to be the lucky ones. This is a very karmic nakshatra that serves an individual with the fruits of their previous karmas. Natives born under this nakshatra are independent, mostly living an extravagant luxurious lifestyle. Their impulsive and honest nature makes them attractive and appreciated by others. They are just and are ready to stand up for what they believe in. Due to the association with the planet Venus, these natives are often good-looking.

The deity ruling this is Bhagya. Bhagya is considered to be the Son of Aditi and the god of wealth fortune and inheritance. According to the mythology, Daksha who was the father of Parvati organized a Maha yagna and decided not to invite Parvati and Shiva to the yagna. Bhagya was one of the priests conducting this yagna. Parvati went to the yagna even after Shiva advised her not to go. When Parvati went to the yagna uninvited, her father Daksha insulted her and Shiva. Unable to bear the insult f her beloved husband Parvati committed suicide and killed herself. Deeply angered and distressed Shiva sent Virabhadra and Bhadrakali to destroy the yagna and kill Parvati’s father Daksha. Virabhadra angered by Bhagya’s participation as a priest in the yagna made Bhagya blind.

After Bhagya was blinded by Shiva, Bhagya who is the lord of wealth and fortune started distributing wealth and favors blindly without much thought. For this reason, it is often observed that individuals born under this nakshatra lack vision. They are humble and helpful, treating everyone with the same respect but they suffer from confusion and cannot see the bigger picture in life. This is also symbolic of the fact that wealth and materialistic pleasure often makes a person blind.

Mostly it is observed that Purva Phalguni natives live a comfortable life, are mostly wealthy, and are often born in a wealthy established family. These natives do not prefer chaos and try to stay away from any kind of problems. This nakshatra along with the Uttara Phalguna nakshatra is called Marriage Mansions. Lord Shiva started his marriage procession when the Moon was transiting this nakshatra. This nakshatra is also the birth star of Deva guru Brihaspati or Jupiter.
