The meaning of Purva Bhadra Pada is ‘The First blessed Foot.’ The deity of this nakshatra is ekapada. It is an unborn one-legged goat in the form of Rudra and is the ancient fire dragon. It is considered as the mount of Lord Agni. Ekapada is the ancient fire dragon who is related to Rudra the god of storms. The sacred animal associated with this nakshatra is the male lion. Once a demon named Hiranyaksha would be killed by Lord Vishnu. This brother attained a boon from Bramha that he will neither be killed in the morning or night and cannot be killed by a man or animal. Hiranyaksha declared himself as God and asked everyone to not chant the name of God. His son Prahlada being a Vishnu devotee refused to do so. Once Hiranyaksha showed a pillar to his son Prahlada and asked if Vishnu was there. His son replied yes. Furious due to this answer he took a knife and cut the pillar. Narasimha who is an avatar of Lord Vishnu jumped out of the pillar and killed him. He was half man and half lion.
